When a CNC quote comes back higher than expected, the reasons are usually design-driven: long machining time, complex geometry, tight tolerances, hard materials, fine finishes, and lots of setups. The encouraging part is that many of these are within your control — which means an expensive part can often be made cheaper without giving up what matters.
